BERTIE Online is a diabetes education course that teaches people with type 1 diabetes (or their carers) how to manage insulin doses, compared to carbohydrate intake. Participants are encouraged to solve problems individually to assess what works best for them, and learn what to do to stay healthy.

BERTIE Online

BERTIE Online® is a diabetes education course that teaches people with type 1 diabetes how to manage insulin doses, matching them to carbohydrate intake, and live life on a day to day basis. Participants are encouraged to solve problems to assess what works best for them, and learn what to do to stay healthy.

Programme inclusion criteria

Type 1 diabetes or parent/carer of someone that has type 1 diabetes

  Has access to a device that can access the internet (smart phone, tablet or computer)

  16 years or older

How does it work?

BERTIE Online is a programme you can access straight away via smart phone, tablet or computer.

Your main focus should be on using the three key learning modules to find out more about diabetes management techniques. In these modules you can also share your experiences with other people, build up a personal record of useful notes and earn the BERTIE Online certificate. Specific topics that may not be relevant to everybody are covered in more detail in the Lifewise and Streetwise areas.  Courses are only available in English.

On completion of a course you will receive a printable certificate.

About BERTIE

BERTIE was created in Bournemouth, based on a European model with many years of research behind it. The Bournemouth group have published real world data from their diabetes clinic over the past 20 years.
